What Is Keto?

Our bodies can run off of two types of fuels: ketones and glucose. The “keto” in a ketogenic diet is when the body produces small fuel molecules called “ketones”. This is an alternative fuel for the body, used when blood sugar (glucose) is in short supply.

Ketones are produced when you limit carbs and consume moderate amounts of protein. Ketones are made in the liver from the breakdown of fats. They are then used as fuel throughout the body, including the brain.

On a ketogenic diet, your entire body switches its fuel supply to run almost entirely on fat. Insulin levels become very low, and fat burning increases dramatically. It becomes easy to access your fat stores to burn them off. This is great if you’re trying to lose weight, but there are also other benefits from the ketogenic diet.

Can I Lose Weight Without Doing Keto?

Yes! Everyone is unique with different lifestyles and body types. There is no “one for all” program that will work for everyone. When I work with you as your coach, we start with an assessment that creates a customized plan for your specific body type, goals, and lifestyle.
